Military Leave

Eligibility Full-time or part-time employees who are drafted, called for active duty or who volunteer for active military service
Available For

Fulfillment of military obligations, including:

  • Draft
  • Called for Active Duty
  • Active Duty Training
  • Volunteer
  • Other uniformed service obligation
Duration Up to five years or as long as required.
How to Request Request military leave from your supervisor as soon as possible. You must have your official orders to verify the leave.
Benefits You may continue benefits during your military leave. In some situations, the state may continue to pay its share of the premiums for health and basic life insurance. Service credit for a military leave of absence counts toward your years of service in the Florida Retirement System.
Paid or Unpaid
  • For the first 30 days, paid leave without using personal leave
  • After 30 days, unpaid leave, unless you use personal leave
  • Agencies may supplement the pay for eligible reservists called to active duty after 30 days.
Returning to Work

Upon release or discharge from active military service, you must return to your position within the time limitations set forth in state and federal law.
