Family Support Work Leave

Eligibility Full-time or part-time Career Service, Selected Exempt Service (SES) or Senior Management Service (SMS) employees
Available For

Parental or Family Medical Leave:

  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Serious health condition of spouse, children, parents

Family Responsibilities:

  • Caring for aging parents
  • Settling parents' estate upon their deaths
  • Relocating dependent children into schools
  • Visiting family members in places requiring extensive travel
Duration Up to six months leave in any 12 month period (runs concurrent with any FMLA leave) Up to 30 days of leave in any 12 months
How to Request Make requests for leave under the Florida Family Supportive Work Program to your supervisor as soon as practicable in advance of the leave - except when a medical emergency or an unforeseeable change in circumstance makes that impossible.
Benefits You may continue health, life or supplemental insurance benefits during leave by paying your portion of the monthly benefit premium, if you're on paid leave or 100 percent of the premium if on unpaid leave.
Paid or Unpaid Unpaid unless you have accrued leave credits.
Job on Return As long as you return to work at or before the end of the approved leave period, you will return to your former position or one that is equivalent in terms of benefits, pay and status.
