Enroll in a Plan

FRS Pension Plan and FRS Investment Plan

You have eight calendar months after your month of hire to make an active election between the FRS Pension Plan and the Investment Plan. If you do not make an active election by the end of the election period, there will be a default membership. If you are a member in all classes other than the Special Risk Class you will default to the FRS Investment Plan. If you are a member in the Special Risk Class you will default to the FRS Pension Plan. You will have a one-time second election to change membership plans during your career.

You can enroll:

  • Online – go to MyFRS; if you're logging in for the first time, use the Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the Retirement Choice Kit mailed to your home, then create a user ID and password.
  • By Phone – call 1-866-446-9377; use your PIN for this option too.
  • By Mail – download and complete the EZ Retirement Plan Enrollment form for your membership class and mail it to the address on the form.

Recently hired? You can refer to the FRS New Hires section to learn what you need to know about both FRS plans.

Is a second election right for you? After making your initial FRS retirement plan selection, you may change plans only once during your remaining FRS working career. To consider whether changing plans could be right for you, visit "Second Election (Adobe PDF Document)".
